Château Tour Haut-Caussan Medoc 2018

This Cru Bourgeois property is currently run by brother and sister Fabien & Véronique Courrian, the family acquired the vineyard in 1877  and they are the 4th generation of winemakers though the family has been living in Blaignan-Medoccan since 1634. Their father Phillipe has moved his wine making passion to Chateau Cascadais in Corbieries .

They maintain a very traditional approach to viticulture and wine making, using no chemicals, only compost which they makes themselves from grape stalks and cuttings, a fact noticeable by the greenness of their vineyard against their neighbours. While in the Medoc mechanical harvesting is common, they believe in hand-picking. They also use no form of filtration. The wine is said to compete favourably with Bordeaux fifth growths such as Lynch-Bages.

In recognition of the quality of this wine poet and writer Armand Got wrote in 1959.

"Château La Tour-Haut-Caussan, Subtle Médoc soft as cream, Brings a full, intense emotion To the dream".

The wine is a deep dark ruby colour. A nose of  tobacco, cedar and blackcurrant with a whiff of leather. Medium bodied with the aromas reflected in the palate and followed by integrated tannins on a firm lingering finish.
