Bierzo
Visting the Bierzo wine region is like taking a step back in time, the area is an unspoilt rural region in the northwest of Spain, smack bang in the path of the Camino de Santiago, which over the centuries has led to many moansteries and churches being built in the area.
With monasteries came the vineyards and in the last decade local winemakers have focused on two native grapes, Godello for white wines and Mencia for red. These are great examples of a local rural region re-discovering its heritage in wine.
