Champagne
Champagne
is unique and essentially French, from the chalk plains and hills of eastern France, between Paris and Lorraine.
Our Wine Buff team has chosen to avoid the big champagne houses. Instead, we focus on family-made grower champagne. In this type of champagne, the winemaker grows the grapes, blends the wine, and bottles their own unique brand.
Our select range is small but packs a powerful pop compared to branded and much more expensive champagnes.
From the Hervé Mathelin fourth generation vineyard which is based in Troissy, in the heart of the Marne valley we have some very special champagne including the Première Brut with a light gold colour with and a delicate effervescence, the Réserve Brut, which has a rich full roundness, with caramel, hazelnut and great freshness and the Privilege, which is concentrated, savoury and very fresh, with excellent acidity and citrus fruit. A really complex refined sparkler.
There is also a superb Rosé which is fruity and very well balanced with a slight dryness of tannin from the vinification of the Pinot noir red wine with a finish of black cherry.
From the fifth generation Guy Charlemagne vineyard, which is based in the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger on the Cotes de Blanc, the non vintage Brut Blanc de Blancs Cru Reserve is made from Grand Cru chardonnay grapes. These grapes grow in the limestone-rich soils of Mesnil.
This champagne is medium bodied full of racy citrus fruit, ripe apple with a background of buttery brioche and almond, rounded off with a delicate smoky mineral finish.
