Mas du Novi Prestigi 2020

Mas du Novi — the vineyard of Saint-Jean-du-Noviciat — is an exceptional organic estate in Montagnac, embedded in the Languedoc landscape just west of Montpellier. Its history can be traced back to the era of the Cathars and Crusaders, and the land was once part of a vast Cistercian abbey. The estate has been a regular recipient of wine awards for its outstanding wines. The Prestigi is a selection of the best red grape varieties, hand-picked from the vineyard. Wine Buff tip: We drank the 2011 in 2023 and it was excellent — this wine ages really well.

About This Wine

The flagship red of Mas du Novi — a Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre blend from organic vineyards in the Grès de Montpellier, one of the Languedoc's most prestigious appellations. Rich, concentrated, and built to age, this is a wine of genuine depth and complexity from one of the region's most historic estates.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deeply coloured with a rich ruby hue
Nose: Red and black fruits, chocolate, toasty oak, and a whiff of leather
Palate: Silky texture with great length of dried red fruit and excellent concentration
Finish: Long and complex with lingering dark fruit and spice

Food Pairing

Excellent with roasts, grilled meats, casseroles, and pork. The depth and complexity also make it a great match for game and aged cheeses.
