Languedoc Wines
One of the world's biggest wine regions, an array of vineyards that surround France's western Mediterranean coast.
This is red wine country, although small amounts of Rosé wine (particularly from Cinsaut, Syrah and Grenache) and increasingly interesting whites are made from (Chardonnay, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc) and the local varieties such as Picpoul.
The Carignan grape used to be the stable grape used in many blends (renowned for young tannic wines), but this has been replaced in the last couple of decades with Grenache, Mourvèdre and particularly, Syrah, mainly due to the influence of the southern Rhône to the east of this enormous swathe of vineyards.
