Château Haut Tropchaud Pomerol 2022

The small vineyard plot of Haut Tropchaud is encircled by some of the most revered names in Pomerol — Le Pin, Certan, Pétrus, and Trotanoy are its immediate neighbours. That’s some pedigree to have on your doorstep, and yet Haut Tropchaud holds its own with quiet confidence. Bang for buck, it is a genuine steal compared to its illustrious neighbours — a Pomerol of real substance at a fraction of the price.

About This Wine

HVE Certified and sustainably farmed, this 100% Merlot from the clay and gravel soils of Pomerol is built for the long haul. It will age beautifully for up to 12 years, but if patience isn’t your strong suit, 4 to 6 hours of decanting will open it up magnificently — a perfect companion for a winter dinner or an evening by the fire.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Inky, deep ruby — dark as a winter night.
Nose: Rich and brooding with luxurious dark fruit — blackcurrant, plum, and dark cherry — layered with oaky vanilla and a hint of spice.
Palate: Full-bodied and concentrated with velvety tannins and a seamless integration of fruit and oak. Opulent, complex, and deeply satisfying.
Finish: Exceptionally long and persistent with lingering dark fruit, vanilla, and a mineral edge.

Food Pairing

A wine of this stature deserves a worthy partner — roast lamb, beef Wellington, or a classic game dish. Also excellent with slow-braised red meats or a rich mushroom-based dish that can match the wine’s depth and complexity. Decant for 4–6 hours before serving.
