Bodegas Ontañón Tempranillo Blanco 2024

In 1988, a wine grower in the Rioja Baja region made a remarkable discovery — one vine among his red Tempranillo had produced yellow-green clusters of grapes. After years of investigation, the Consejo Regulador of Rioja confirmed it as a natural mutation of the red grape. Tempranillo Blanco is found only in Rioja, and since 2007 has been officially permitted in white Rioja DOC wines. Only a handful of growers have it. Bodegas Ontañón planted their vines in 2010 and released their first vintage in 2016 — making this one of the most distinctive and genuinely rare white wines in Spain.

About This Wine

Made from 100% Tempranillo Blanco — a natural white mutation of the famous red Tempranillo grape, found exclusively in Rioja. Bodegas Ontañón were among the first to recognise its potential, and this wine is a testament to that vision: aromatic, textured, and unlike anything else in the white wine world. Vegan-friendly.
