Toro Wines
Toro lies just 40km for the Portuguese border and is a rural region known for its big bold reds. The local grape is known as Tinto de Toro which is a variety of Tempranillo but thicker skinned, lower acidity and a darker colder producing the traditional big alcoholic wines, in recent years the vineyards have modernised and the better winemakers are making wines of finesse and elegance on par with Ribero del Duero and Rioja.
