Chateau le Plaisir Plan de Dieu 2019

Château Le Plaisir is one of the oldest properties in Cairanne. The oldest documents attest to the acquisition of "La Grange Le Plaisir" in 1712 by Thomas Gasparin, grandson of Adriano Gasparini appointed Consul in Cayranne in 1595. Due to its historical importance, it is one of the rare properties in the Rhône Valley authorised to use "Château" in its name.

During Middle Ages, crossing this area was a dangerous journey, a vast bandit-infested forest of scrubland could mean taking your life into your own hands; all you could do was commit your soul to God.This could well be the origin of the name Plan de Dieu, meaning God’s Plain. Since those days, the area has been planted with vines and only a few patches of woodland remain dotted throughout the vineyards.Vines grow on a bed of red clay packed to a depth of 10 meters with a mass of smooth-rolled cobbles. Given this thick, stony foundation, the soil is sparse and yields little in the way of fruit, barely enough to produce one bottle of wine per plant. From this soil, they produce a dense and concentrated wine, nose of stewed black fruits with liquorice and underlying smoke. In the mouth good spice, leather and cloves with a long smooth tasting warm finish.
