Château Tour Haut-Caussan Medoc 2018
This Cru Bourgeois property is currently run by brother and sister Fabien and Véronique Courrian. The family acquired the vineyard in 1877 and are now the fourth generation of winemakers, though the Courrian family has been living in Blaignan-Médoc since 1634. Their father Philippe has since channelled his winemaking passion into Château Cascadais in Corbières. The estate maintains a very traditional approach to viticulture — no chemicals, only compost made from grape stalks and cuttings, a fact visible in the striking greenness of their vineyard against their neighbours. While mechanical harvesting is common in the Médoc, the Courrians believe in hand-picking. No filtration is used. The wine is said to compete favourably with Bordeaux fifth growths such as Lynch-Bages.
About This Wine
A Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blend from the Médoc, sustainably farmed and crafted with the same uncompromising attention to detail that has defined this estate for generations. In recognition of the quality of this wine, poet and writer Armand Got wrote in 1959:
“Château La Tour-Haut-Caussan, Subtle Médoc soft as cream, Brings a full, intense emotion To the dream.”
Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep, dark ruby red.
Nose: Classic Médoc — tobacco, cedar, and blackcurrant with a distinguished whiff of leather.
Palate: Medium-bodied with the aromas beautifully reflected on the palate. Integrated tannins provide excellent structure and balance.
Finish: Firm and lingering with great persistence and a classic Bordeaux character.
Food Pairing
A natural partner for the classic Bordeaux table — roast lamb, game, grilled red meats, or aged hard cheeses. The wine’s structure and depth make it equally rewarding alongside a slow-braised dish or a celebratory Sunday roast.
