Pierre Morin Sancerre 2023
Over 40 years ago Gérard Morin took over the family’s 1½ hectares of vineyard and his son, Pierre now runs the property. Pierre spent time working in Australia’s Adelaide Hills and at Domaine Dujac in Burgundy.
Over the years the property has grown to nine hectares. The vineyards are amongst the finest and steepest in Bué. Yields are held low through a spring de-budding (one of Pierre’s main changes) and harvesting is by hand with meticulous sorting prior to vinification.
Pierre prefers natural methods in the vineyards and winery, avoiding herbicides and using natural yeasts for fermentation. All whites are vinified in stainless steel tanks and left to mature on lees for several months.
It is dry and fresh, with good acidity and excellent minerality. This is the leaner of his wines and a superb example of a Sancerre. A rich, gooseberry leaf style of Sancerre, typical of Bué. Pale yellow-green colour, bright and clear, distinctive blackcurrant leaf and tomato stalk aromas. Firmly structured and richly aromatic, flavours of grapefruit, gooseberry and lime. Fruity in character and with elegant acidity.
