Aegidius Castrum Egri Bikavér 'Bull's Blood' 2018
Egri Bikavér — Bull's Blood of Eger — is one of Hungary's most storied wines, with a history stretching back to the 16th century siege of Eger, when legend has it that the defending soldiers' ferocity was attributed by the Ottomans to drinking the dark, powerful red wine. Today, Bikavér is a protected designation requiring a blend of at least three varieties, with Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch) as the backbone. Aegidius Castrum is produced by Zoltán Lóska, a traditional family-owned vineyard in Eger committed to crafting premium Bikavér with real depth and character.
About This Wine
A premium medium-bodied Egri Bikavér blending Kékfrankos, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon — aged in wooden barrels to add cocoa and coffee complexity to the wine's vibrant cherry and currant fruit. Playful acidity, velvety tannins, and a long finish make this an excellent food wine and a fine introduction to Hungary's most celebrated red wine style.
