Broadbent Rainwater Madeira

Rainwater Madeira is a style of Madeira known for its lighter, medium-dry character. It is often described as having a nutty flavour and good acidity. The name is said to originate from a historical accident where barrels of Madeira were exposed to rainwater, resulting in a diluted, lighter wine that proved very popular.

Here's a good introduction to Madeira. Dark reddish-copper in colour, aged in oak casks for 3 years. Slightly sweet yet still fresh with a mix of dried walnuts, dates, caramel and dried orange peel. Smooth and gently sweet, it's not a "sticky" dessert wine but shows good fresh-fruit sweetness built on Madeira's sturdy core of tart acidity.
