Tokaji Classic Aszú 3 Puttonyos 2017 (50cl)

Tokaji Classic is based in Mád, one of the most prestigious villages in the Tokaj wine region — home to some of Hungary's greatest Grand Cru vineyards. Winemaker Imre Galambosi, the local mayor, farms 8 hectares across the Grand Cru Király and Betsők sites, with vines averaging 40 years of age. The estate has won 6 consecutive Gold medals for its Aszú wines and is exclusive to The Wine Buff in Ireland.

About This Wine

Tokaji Aszú is one of the world's great dessert wines — made from botrytis-affected grapes (Aszú berries) added to base wine in measured quantities called puttonyos. Three puttonyos produces a lighter, more elegant style than the richer 5 puttonyos, with delicate sweetness balanced by the naturally high acidity of Furmint. A blend of Furmint, Hárslevelű, and Muscat, this is a wine of real finesse and ageing potential.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Pale golden yellow
Nose: Peach, honey, and orange blossom with a delicate botrytis character
Palate: Full-bodied with caramel, zesty orange peel, and a beautifully balanced sweetness; very low acidity and low tannin
Finish: Long and elegant with lingering honey and citrus

Food Pairing

A classic match for soft cheeses, foie gras, and light desserts. Also excellent on its own as a digestif.
