Tornesi Le Benducce IGT 2023
The Tornesi family has owned their estate — known as Le Benducce — since 1750, long before Brunello di Montalcino became known as a wine and even before Italy became a unified nation. Maurizio Tornesi is a true Tuscan farmer, as authentic as they come, who knows the land of Montalcino and the Sangiovese Grosso grape like the back of his hand. The estate has 7 hectares under vine, more than half of which is Sangiovese Grosso — the Brunello clone. Vineyards are worked fully by hand, with yield reduction and high-density planting as primary tenets of vineyard practice.
About This Wine
The Le Benducce is aged in steel vats rather than oak, which means it cannot be classified as a DOCG Montalcino wine — but it uses 100% Sangiovese from the same estate as the Brunello, making it an exceptional value IGT wine from one of Montalcino's most authentic producers. Fresh, sustainably farmed, and food-friendly, with the bright fruit and high natural acidity that defines great Sangiovese.
