Chateau de Fieuzal Pessac-Léognan 2020
Irish businessman Lochlann Quinn’s love of fine wine led him to invest in Bordeaux, acquiring Château de Fieuzal from a bank more concerned with making money than making great wine. His first act was to hire Stephen Carrier as head winemaker — a man who came from a family of third-generation grape growers in Champagne, who watched their fruit go off to nearby wineries and dreamed of being part of the winemaking process himself. A degree in oenology and viticulture at Reims University, followed by six years at the prestigious Lynch Bages, gave him the foundation to realise that dream at De Fieuzal.
About This Wine
Château de Fieuzal is a Grand Cru Classé de Graves in Pessac-Léognan — one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious appellations, producing wines of exceptional complexity and ageing potential from the gravelly soils south of the city. The 2020 vintage is outstanding across the left bank, combining extraordinary ripeness with freshness and balance. A Merlot-led blend with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, this is a wine of real depth and elegance, built to develop beautifully over the next decade.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Beautiful ruby red with garnet reflections — luminous and inviting in the glass.
Nose: Surprisingly rich and complex — a symphony of fresh blackberries, blueberries, and plums, with spicy notes of cloves adding depth and intrigue.
Palate: Medium-bodied and particularly gratifying, with sinuous, velvety tannins and a pleasantly soft, fruity character. The fruit is generous and expressive, with excellent balance and a natural elegance.
Finish: Long and persistent with a clean, fruit-driven close that lingers beautifully.
Food Pairing
Excellent with roasts — even very flavoursome ones — as well as lamb, game, and grilled red meats. Also perfect with medium-aged cheeses and cured meats. The wine’s velvety tannins and generous fruit make it one of the most food-friendly Grand Cru Bordeaux in our range. Decant for an hour before serving.
