Château Lynch Bages Pauillac 2020
Located in Pauillac, Château Lynch Bages has left its mark on the history of the Médoc. Although the terroir of Bages has been known since the 16th century, it was in the 18th century that the estate gained fame — with the vineyard owned by the son of an Irish citizen named Thomas Lynch. That Irish heritage lives on in the name of one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated and beloved estates, now managed by Jean-Charles Cazes and consistently producing wines that punch well above their 5th Growth classification.
About This Wine
Château Lynch Bages is a 5ème Grand Cru Classé in Pauillac, widely regarded as one of the great over-achievers of the 1855 classification — a wine that regularly competes with the second and third growths. The 2020 vintage is exceptional: a year of extraordinary concentration and balance across the Médoc, producing wines of remarkable depth and ageing potential. A Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, this is a wine built for the very long haul.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep, inky ruby with violet hints — the hallmark of a great Pauillac vintage.
Nose: Deep and dark with rich cassis and savoury, earthy spices — complex, brooding, and utterly compelling.
Palate: Great attack with rich dark fruit and a mouth-coating of ripe, intense tannins. Piercing blackcurrant fruit cuts through savoury oak spices with precision and power. This is a wine that will age magnificently.
Finish: Exceptionally long and persistent — a finish that speaks of a great vintage and a great estate.
Food Pairing
A wine of this stature demands the finest table — roast lamb, venison, or slow-braised meats. Also exceptional with aged beef, a classic rack of lamb, or a celebratory roast. Decant for at least two hours before serving to allow the wine to fully open and express itself.
