The Wine Buff Selection Cuvee Rene St Emilion Grand Cru 2020
Cuvée René is The Wine Buff’s own Saint-Émilion Grand Cru — a wine selected and sourced exclusively for us from HVE Certified vineyards in one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated right bank appellations. Named in tribute to paddys father in law René, this is a wine that carries real ambition: a Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend from the limestone and clay soils of Saint-Émilion, crafted to express the depth, elegance, and ageing potential that makes this appellation one of the world’s great wine regions.
About This Wine
Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is a classification that demands quality — stricter yield limits, mandatory tasting panels, and a commitment to the terroir that has made this corner of Bordeaux famous. Cuvée René meets that standard with confidence: a structured, food-friendly red with the fruit, balance, and tannin framework to develop beautifully over the next decade. Available exclusively through The Wine Buff.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep ruby red with garnet hues.
Nose: Classic Saint-Émilion — ripe dark plum, blackcurrant, and a subtle earthy complexity with hints of cedar and spice.
Palate: Medium-bodied and well-structured with generous dark fruit, integrated tannins, and a lovely natural balance. The Merlot brings roundness and depth, while the Cabernet Franc adds freshness and a subtle herbal lift.
Finish: Long and satisfying with a velvety, persistent close.
Food Pairing
A natural partner for the classic Bordeaux table — roast lamb, grilled red meats, or aged hard cheeses. Also excellent with slow-braised beef, duck confit, or a rich mushroom-based dish. The wine’s structure and depth reward equally considered food.
