Beyra Reserva Red 2022
The Biera region is one of the most remote areas of the Iberian Peninsula, in the border area between Douro Superior and Beira Alta. The wine is from cool, high-altitude vineyards (700m) in north-eastern Portugal, close to the border with Spain.
In 2011, Rui Robredo Madeira returned to the same winery where in 1987 he worked his first harvest, in a small winery located in the village of Vermiosa in the highest vineyards in Portugal.
With great dedication, he restored the estate, convinced that the winemaking tradition of this area represents one of Portugal’s most undervalued treasures. The ancient vines of indigenous grape varieties have thrived in the challenging high-altitude climate and in soils enriched with quartz veins weaving through layers of schist and granite.
Madeira seeks the Beira Interior’s true identity: wines of great complexity resulting from the combination of aromatic intensity, minerality and freshness.
This Tempranillo based wine offers a dry, mineral character, showcasing rich aromas of red berries and a pronounced cherry and blackberry flavour. Complemented by subtle vanilla and spice undertones, it reveals firm tannin's and bright acidity. Due to its minimal intervention production, some sediment is evident, making decanting advisable for optimal enjoyment.
