Château Loupiac Gaudiet Half Bottle 2018
Located just across the river from Barsac, Loupiac is a great source of good-value sweet wines from Bordeaux. Most châteaux here make simple late-harvest wines — but Loupiac-Gaudiet employs a riskier and more ambitious strategy, waiting for botrytis to arrive and transform their grapes into something truly extraordinary. The results are far closer in style to Sauternes than most wines from this appellation, whilst retaining Loupiac’s inherent freshness and charm. Château Loupiac-Gaudiet fully deserves its reputation as the premier property in the region.
About This Wine
A Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon blend made in the Sauternes tradition — botrytis-affected, lusciously sweet, rich, and full, yet with a lovely natural freshness that keeps the wine vibrant and alive. Available here in a 37.5cl half bottle, it is the perfect size for two glasses of something truly special — an ideal dessert wine or a luxurious aperitif for a special occasion.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Bright golden yellow with warm amber highlights.
Nose: Ripe peaches and blossom with a hint of marmalade — inviting, fresh, and beautifully aromatic.
Palate: Lusciously sweet and rich with a delicious balance of freshness and ripe oranges. Suggestions of sweet spice add complexity, while the natural acidity keeps the wine from feeling heavy.
Finish: Long and honeyed with a clean, fresh close that invites another sip.
Food Pairing
A wonderfully versatile sweet wine — classic with Roquefort or a fine cheese board, and equally excellent with fruit-based desserts, crème brülée, or a fresh peach tart. Also enjoyable on its own as a contemplative after-dinner wine or a luxurious aperitif. Serve well chilled.
