Castello d'Alba Douro Red 2023

Castello d'Alba is the project of winemaker Rui Madeira, sourcing grapes from high-altitude terraced vineyards in the Douro Superior — the most remote and dramatic sub-region of the Douro Valley, at an average elevation of 400 metres. South-facing schist terraces, extreme temperatures, and low yields produce grapes of intense concentration and aromatic complexity.

About This Wine

A medium-bodied Douro red blending three of Portugal's most celebrated indigenous varieties. Rui selects grapes for freshness and aromatic lift rather than sheer weight, resulting in a gourmet-style wine that reflects the terroir of the Douro Superior with elegance and precision. Nose: Rock rose, blackberry, wild flowers, and warm spice
Palate: Medium-bodied and smooth with balanced acidity and fine, polished tannins; dark fruit and a touch of minerality

Excellent with Mediterranean dishes, roast lamb, grilled meats, slow-cooked stews, and hard aged cheeses. Also a great match for Asian-spiced dishes.
