Château Rocher Gardat Montagne St Emilion 2022

Château Rocher Gardat has been in the family since 1880. The vineyards are located in an area known as Gardat, lying above quarries that are over 300 years old — many of the stones quarried here were used in the construction of the wine cellars in the neighbouring châteaux. It is from this rocky heritage that the estate takes its name: Rocher, meaning rock. HVE Certified and sustainably farmed, this is a Montagne-Saint-Émilion of genuine character and provenance.

About This Wine

A Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend from the Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation — the satellite appellation that sits just north of Saint-Émilion itself and shares much of its limestone and clay terroir. Approachable now but with the structure to develop well over the next 8 years, this is a wine that offers excellent value within the Bordeaux right bank family.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep ruby red with purple hints.
Nose: Toasty oak with ripe plums, blackberry, and mild warm spices — inviting and generous.
Palate: Medium-full bodied, fresh, and fruity with a silky texture. The fruit is expressive and well-framed, with a pleasing slight sour cherry tartness adding freshness and lift.
Finish: Smooth and lingering, with the silky texture carrying through to a clean, satisfying close.

Food Pairing

A classic right bank partner — roast lamb, grilled red meats, or game. Also excellent with slow-braised beef, duck confit, or a hearty winter casserole. The wine’s fruit and freshness make it equally enjoyable with a simple weeknight roast.
