Le Tannat de Philppe Courrain 2019
In 1992 Philippe Courrian purchased land from the Château Saint Laurent Bermon estate in the Corbières region of southern France, renaming the vineyard Cascadais after the beautiful waterfalls on the property. Working with the same environmentally conscious philosophy he applied at Château Tour Haut-Caussan in the Médoc, Philippe took a bold gamble planting Tannat — a grape more at home in Madiran — in the Corbières terroir. The result is a rare, singular organic wine produced in tiny quantities of around 2,000 bottles, and only in the finest vintages.
About This Wine
100% Tannat, aged 16 months in 100% new oak barrels, this is a wine built for the long haul. With production limited to approximately 2,000 bottles per year, Le Tannat de Philippe Courrian is a genuine collector's wine — a testament to what happens when a passionate vigneron takes a risk on an unconventional grape in an unexpected place.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Dense, inky black with deep violet hues.
Nose: Intense blackcurrant and blackberry with hints of dark chocolate and toasted oak from the new barrel ageing.
Palate: Full-bodied and richly textured, with concentrated dark fruit, smooth ripe tannins and a well-integrated acidity that gives the wine excellent structure.
Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering notes of dark fruit and spice.
Food Pairing
A natural partner for robust dishes — try with aged hard cheeses, grilled or roasted meats, game, or slow-cooked lamb. The wine's structure and depth make it equally at home alongside a hearty winter stew or a celebratory roast.
