Van Zeller Vintage Port 2017

Van Zellers & Co. dates back to 1780, making it one of the oldest Port producers in the Douro Valley. Since 2007, the house has been back in the hands of Cristiano van Zeller, who has placed it at the forefront of the New Douro revolution — combining centuries of tradition with a modern, uncompromising approach to quality.

About This Wine

The 2017 Vintage Port is a blend of more than 25 traditional Douro varieties, led by Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca, alongside Rufete, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Francisca, and many others. Hugely concentrated and deeply structured, the 2017 is shaping up to be one of the finest vintages in recent memory — a wine built for the long haul, with immense ageing potential and a balance of fruit and structure that is rarely achieved. Decanting is recommended.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep red garnet with violet tints
Nose: Hugely concentrated — blackberries, black cherries, blackcurrants, and plums with deep ripe fruit aromas
Palate: Powerful and elegant with great structure, concentrated dark fruit, and exceptional balance
Finish: Immensely long with extraordinary ageing potential and a rich, complex close

Food Pairing

A classic partner for blue cheese and rich desserts. Also magnificent on its own as a contemplative digestif.
